Overview
The register, not five systems
OpsVentry is an operations platform for a small business: point of sale, inventory, customers, suppliers, purchasing, money and reporting in one application. It replaces the till, the stock spreadsheet, the customer notebook and the month-end arithmetic with a single register that stays consistent.
Built for the counter
The point of sale is barcode and keyboard first. A product can be scanned or searched, quantities adjusted, a customer attached and payment taken without leaving the keyboard. Sales, returns and voids are documents with their own history, not numbers that overwrite each other.
Stock with a memory
Inventory is not a mutable quantity. Every receipt, sale, return and adjustment writes a movement to an immutable ledger, and current stock is derived from it. That makes the question "why is stock wrong" answerable: the history is still there, in order, with the document that caused each movement.
Parties and money
Customers and suppliers carry ledgers, balances and statements alongside the sales and purchases they belong to. Receivables and payables, payments in and out, expenses and cash or bank accounts are part of the same model, so the register and the accounts cannot disagree.
One product, two places to run it
The web application deploys to ordinary cPanel shared hosting: PHP and MariaDB, Apache, no daemons and no build step. A Windows desktop app runs the same product offline for shops with unreliable internet, keeping its own local database and synchronising two ways when a connection returns, with idempotent retries and visible sync status.
Built with integrity first
Financial and inventory writes are transactional and append-only where history matters. Roles and permissions are granular, every consequential action is audited, and the JSON API is versioned so the desktop client and the web app can evolve without breaking each other.
The Challenge
A small business was running its day across a till, a stock spreadsheet, a customer notebook and a set of paper invoices. Stock counts drifted, receivables were tracked from memory, and the month-end numbers had to be reassembled by hand. The shop also lost internet regularly, so a cloud-only POS would have stopped trading.
Our Approach
We built one register: a transactional POS, an immutable stock-movement ledger with derived current stock, party ledgers for customers and suppliers, and purchasing, payments, expenses and reports on the same data model. It deploys to ordinary cPanel hosting with no build step, and a Windows desktop client runs the same product offline with two-way sync and idempotent retries.
